About Lookout Mountain Webcam, Co

Lookout Mountain is both a foothill and a mountain on the eastern flank of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The 7,377-foot peak (or 2,249 meters; one of the lowest mountain peaks in Colorado) is located in Lookout Mountain Park, 1.7 miles (2.7 km) west-southwest of downtown Golden in Jefferson County, Colorado . While it isn’t close to being a high peak of Colorado, it’s still a very popular spot for views and recreation, including its sweeping views of the Denver skyline (just 12 miles / 19 km away) and the Great Plains. The mountain is easily accessed via the winding, scenic Lariat Loop road.

Top attractions and things to do on the mountain include a visit to the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave: This is the final resting place of the legendary Wild West showman, William “Buffalo Bill” Cody. The Lookout Mountain Nature Center offers interactive wildlife exhibits, conservation education, and access to hiking trails. Outdoor recreation includes bolted routes for rock climbers, paved roads for cyclists, and the popular Chimney Gulch trail for hikers. Lookout Mountain is also popular with paragliders. Access to the park and trails are free, though there is a small admission fee to enter the Buffalo Bill Museum. The mountain is just a 20 minute drive from downtown Golden.

Lookout Mountain’s earliest known inhabitants were the Ute tribe of Indigenous Americans, who used the mountain as a lookout point upon the surrounding region.

Lookout Mountain features a cool, dry, and highly variable mountain climate with warm summers and cold winters. The mountain receives an average of about 68 inches of snowfall in late fall, winter and spring, which is around normal snowfall for the state.
